I am writing this so that at least me can remember what I did to root to phone. Well, after installaing the 2.1 update on my xperia x10, I just noticed that I had to reinstall all my apps (30+) one by one, and moreover, every app data was lost; all this although i did a backup with appInstaller. Also, the market was not showing my apps, so no more auto-checks for upgrades and so on. After researching, I saw that Titanium Backup was able to do all of that and much more. That’s when I decided to root my phone (Titanium requires root access) and have Titanium functional. Here’s how you can root your xperia x10 2.1 (and probably 1.6).
- Download SuperOneClickv1.zip from here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=824788)
- Extract the folder SuperOneClickv1
- Double-click on SuperOneClick.exe
- Connect your phone (xperia, what else) to the PC. Do not respond to any notification on the phone.
- On the PC, in SuperOneClick application, click the button ROOT
- the app writes a lot of stuff on the screen. When you « waiting for the device », go on your phone, navigate to main menu > parameters > applications and activate Debug Mode. If the phone asks for a confirmation, click yes.
- SuperOneClick now writes a lot of stuff to the screen
b- If by any chance SUperOneClick is stuck at « …. rageagainstthecage », the go to you phone, deactivate USB Debug Mode, reactivate Debug Mode again. Do not do any other thing on the phone. If need be, click on the « Home » button to avoid unnecessary notifications
- SuperOneClick has finished on your PC and flashes « …Rooted… ».
- Unplug your phone, deactivate USB Debug Mode and Enjoy your new life.
[EDIT] There’s an application on the market: z4root that root your device with one click, no need of a PC! Works great![EDIT]
